Probably the most important factor in sending people to Mars is that they must be able to get there alive. Whatever the different models, the reality is that the craft must be able to sustain life on the journey. I have designed a simple craft based on the criteria for sending humans to Mars.
It will need multiple launches to place all the elements in space and will require construction in orbit. I don’t see any other way…
